WILDLIFE MONITOR

Job Description

  • Accompany staff or contractors in the field to monitor for potential human/wildlife encounters or conflicts. 

  • Assess the potential hazards in the area prior to going into the field and provide safety briefing to staff or contractors. 

  • Deter and condition wildlife in accordance with our best wildlife management practices and procedures. 

  • Perform safe work practices with wildlife deterrents, (firearms, bear spray…)

  • Report on hazards that may attract wildlife with recommendations to reduce or eliminate the risk. 

  • Report any sightings of wildlife, incidents, or actions performed.

  • Promote and participate in a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Actively participate in safety meetings.

  • Identify hazards and participate in hazard control procedures in accordance with Health and Safety Policies. 

  • Follow all company and client Health and Safety protocols, practices, and procedures.

  • Communicate professionally both orally and in writing with clients and company personnel. 

  • Provide tool box talks or presentations to clients and workers. 

  • Perform safe work practices while deterring wildlife.

  • Report any incidents or near misses in accordance with Health & Safety Practices.

  • Provide reports to management and client’s on wildlife sightings and actions taken.

  • Experience working in environments where wildlife encounters occur.

  • Ability to work under physically demanding and adverse weather conditions

  • Ability to walk approximately 4 to 10 km distances while carrying equipment.

  • Able to wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed and in compliance with Health & Safety practices, procedures, and policies.          

  • Practice good housekeeping, keep all work areas clean and free from hazards.

  • Proficiency in the English language

  • Operate computer software such as word, excel, email by using computer, tablet, or smart phones.

Qualifications

  • Must have wildlife experience, specifically working in wilderness environments and dealing with human/wildlife encounters

  • Must possess a valid Possession Acquisition License (PAL)

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and provide a clean driver’s abstract

  • Must complete an RCMP Criminal Record Check

  • Must complete a Drug and Alcohol Screening Test

  • Must possess a valid 1st Aid Level 1 ticket

  •  Computer proficiency

  • English language proficiency

  • Physically fit to perform the job duties

  • Other qualifications may include but are not limited to WHMIS, TDG, H2S, please provide any valid tickets you currently hold
